Important Notes
TSA Background Check Required
To obtain a HazMat endorsement, all applicants must pass a written exam and submit to a TSA security threat assessment (background screening). Schedule your appointment at universalenroll.dhs.gov.
Not Shown on a CLP
The HazMat endorsement will not appear on a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). It is only added to a full CDL after all requirements are met.

How to Get Your HazMat Endorsement

7.5-hour prep course covering all topics tested on the Alabama HazMat endorsement written exam. Available for $50.
Pass the Written Exam
Take the HazMat knowledge test at an Alabama ALEA Driver License office. You must pass this exam to proceed.
Schedule a TSA Background Check
All HazMat endorsement applicants must complete a TSA security threat assessment. Schedule at universalenroll.dhs.gov.
Receive Your Endorsement
Once your background check clears, the HazMat endorsement is added to your CDL. Note: it will not appear on a Commercial Learner's Permit.
